Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) In 3 Simple Steps

An Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) piece is very simple to prepare and mail.
Just follow these few simple steps to learn how to take your EDDM from print to delivery.

               1. Create an account & map out your locations.

             2. Bundle

             3. Delivery

1. Create an account and map out your locations.

The Post Office offers a handy tool on their website where you can enter data about the area you wish to mail to and it returns information about that area, such as:

-Number of homes in a route
-Number of businesses in a route
-Statistical information like average age or income of that area.
-Total number of routes needed for your mailing
-Approximate cost of Postage per mailing
-Local Post Office for each route

There are several ways to choose the areas where your EDDM will hit:

-By City
-By County
-By Zip Code
-By radius around a specific address you choose

You can choose the type of routes served:

-Rural/Highway Contract
-PO Boxes

And you can select from two delivery types:

-Business and Residential
-Residential Only

Once you have made all of your selections and have a final count of the area and routes that you want covered, you can continue by clicking "Next" to create all of the paperwork needed for delivering your EDDM pieces to the Post Office.
Church Offset Printing can print your mail pieces and provide them to you with easy-to-follow instructions and required USPS documentation.  Cost to print postcards varies with the different stocks and EDDM Sizes that you choose.

2. Bundle
This is the most tedious step of completing your EDDM, but it's easy!
The Post Office requires that you bundle your EDDM pieces into stacks of 100, so that the Mail Carrier can take these bundles and place them in their bag or cart and leave one at each mailbox or PO box on their route.

Church Offset Printing provides these to you with slip sheets every 100 pieces to aid in the sorting.
One of the forms that the system creates for you is the Facing Slip. This form needs to be on top of every bundle. The post office will only provide you with 1 facing slip.  You will need to make copies of this form for your bundles.  It's recommended that you fill in the date and bundle count for each mailing before making copies so that you won't have to fill them in every time.

These are the fields you must complete on the Facing Slip:
-Route Number
-Number of Pieces in Bundle
-Total Number of Bundles
-Company Name
-Post Office of Mailing

If your route has 458 names, you will need 5 facing slips, 4 facing slips will be marked for bundle of 100, 1 facing slip will say 58.  Your bundles will be marked 1 of 5, 2 of 5, ect… to make it easier on the postal delivery person.

Church Offset Printing does have an option that will bundle and prepare your EDDM Mailng.
This helps make the process even easier, we can print your mail pieces PLUS count and bundle them by carrier route and ship them to you with the required USPS documentation – ready to drop off at the Post Office.

3. Delivery
Once you have your mail route and bundled pieces, the final step is to deliver it to the Post Office on the forms. The forms generated by the EDDM system will give the lists the address of each Post Office you must deliver the bundled mailers to, the hours of operation, and contact information.  You must deliver the mailings to the local post office of the carrier routes you choose.

You will also find a table listing the Carrier Routes selected, the number of mail pieces for each route, and the total postage cost. From here, your Post Office representative will review your paperwork and mail pieces, process the paperwork in the register, and accept payment for your EDDM.  Remember to keep a sample handy of your mailing.  The post office will want to weigh and measure it to make sure they meet postal requirements.
The number of Post Offices listed will typically only vary if you chose more than one carrier route.
Your mail pieces will be delivered within the Standard Mail delivery time.

For the ultimate convenience, we can print your mail pieces, count and bundle them by carrier route, and then mail them for you via “open and distribute” to the local Post Office.
